The Riley County Community GIS Website has been made possible
through a collaborative effort involving Riley County, the City of
Manhattan, Community Online Resource Exchange (CORE) and Project
Impact. Both Riley County and the City of Manhattan have invested
significant dollars developing and maintaining GIS data. In the past
this data has been relatively difficult to access without visiting
the City or County GIS departments in person. The purpose of this
website is to improve the accessibility of this information by
making it available on the Internet. The ability to achieve this
goal was made possible through financial assistance from Project
Impact and CORE.
GIS technology makes use of several integrated layers of data for
a given geographic area in order to gain useful knowledge of that
area. Information such as streets and addresses; utility
infrastructure, zoning districts, parks and trails, ecosystems, etc.
are used to map and track information of a given geographic area.
GIS mapping is unlimited in its usefulness for municipal planners,
utilities, conservationists, developers, businesses and
first-responders and it has broad application in both the public and
private domain
The Riley County Community GIS Website utilizes 36 data sets that
are maintained by both Riley County GIS and the City of Manhattan
GIS. Examples of the data sets you will find in this application
include County and City boundaries, ownership parcels, street
centerlines, zoning districts, parks and trails; water &
sanitary sewer networks, political jurisdictions, and aerial
photographic images. As is the nature of any GIS, this website can
be used in a wide spectrum of applications.
